Smart Notes Privacy Policy
Updated November 2, 2026
Smart Notes keeps your notes on your device. This policy explains what information the app handles, which services support it, and the choices you have.
At a glance
- No account or sign-up. Your notes are saved on your device, and Digital AI Labs runs no server that stores them.
- Your notes leave your device only when you choose: a Google Drive backup, a reminder copied to your calendar, or a note you share.
- The free version shows ads from Google AdMob. Premium removes them.
- We use Google Firebase to understand how the app is used and to fix crashes.
- Payments for Premium are handled by Google Play. We never see your card details.
Information stored on your device
Your notes, checklists, reminders, categories, sketches, attachments and settings are stored in Smart Notes' app-specific storage on your device. This includes photos, videos, voice recordings, PDFs and other files you add to notes. Digital AI Labs cannot see or access them.
Features that use your device
- Camera. Used only when you take a photo, record a video or scan text into a note. Text scanning runs on your device.
- Photos and files. Used only to attach the photos, videos and files you pick, or that you drag into a note.
- Microphone. Used only while you record a voice memo, which is saved in the note. When you use voice typing, your speech is handled by your device's speech recognition service (often provided by Google), under that service's own terms.
- Location. Used only when you add a location to a note, or if you turn on "Attach default location on notes". The location is stored with the note on your device. To show an address, your device's location service looks up the place.
- Calendar. Used only if you turn on "Add reminders to calendar" in Settings. Each reminder is then copied into your device calendar with the note's title and text. If that calendar syncs online, for example with Google Calendar, that service stores it.
- Notifications and alarms. Used to deliver the reminders you set.
- Translation. Notes are translated on your device by Google's on-device translator. The first time you use a language, its translation model is downloaded from Google.
- Lock. Android handles screen-lock, fingerprint and face checks. The app never receives your biometric data.
Backups
- Google Drive. If you choose to back up to Google Drive, you sign in with your Google account, which shares your email address and basic profile with the app so it can connect to Drive. Backups are stored in a hidden app folder in your own Drive. Digital AI Labs has no access to them. You can delete them in Drive under Settings › Manage apps.
- Backup files. Backups you save with the file picker go to the location you choose. Automatic backups are kept in the app's storage on your device.
- Android backup. If device backup is turned on, Android may include Smart Notes data in your Google device backup. You can manage this in your phone's Settings › Backup.
Information you choose to share
When you share or export a note as text, an image, a PDF or a Smart Notes file, the app uses Android's share sheet, and the note goes only to the app and people you choose. Text you send to Smart Notes from another app is saved as a note on your device.
Services used by the app
Smart Notes uses the following services. They collect some information automatically from your device. Analytics and crash reporting start when you first open the app. Apart from backups you save to your Google Drive, none of them receive the contents of your notes.
| Service | What it's used for | Information it processes |
|---|---|---|
| Google AdMob | Showing ads in the free version, including reward videos you choose to watch, measuring them and preventing fraud | Advertising ID, IP address, device and app information, ad interactions |
| Firebase Analytics | Understanding which features are used, so we can improve the app | App instance ID, advertising ID, features used, in-app purchase events, device model, Android version, approximate region |
| Firebase Crashlytics | Finding and fixing crashes | Crash logs, device state, app version, installation ID |
| Firebase Performance Monitoring | Measuring the app's speed and reliability | Device and app information, network timings, approximate region |
| Firebase Cloud Messaging | Sending occasional notifications from us | A push token for your app installation |
| Google Drive and Google Sign-In | Storing backups you choose to make | Your email address and basic profile, and your backup files in your own Drive |
| Google Play Billing | Processing Premium purchases and subscriptions | Purchase status and token. Payment details stay with Google. |
| LottieFiles | Downloading animated stickers and note backgrounds | Your IP address |

Ads and your choices
Ads in the free version may be personalized using your advertising ID. You can reset or delete your advertising ID in your device's Google settings. Premium removes ads.
How we use information
We use the information described above only to run the app, show ads in the free version, process purchases, fix problems, understand which features are useful, and reply to you when you contact us. We don't sell your personal information.
Keeping and deleting your information
You can delete any note, and restore or permanently empty the Trash, in the app. Uninstalling Smart Notes removes the data in its app storage, including automatic backups, but not backup files you saved with the file picker or your Google Drive backup. Information processed by Google services is kept according to Google's retention policies. To ask about information related to you, email us.
Children
Smart Notes is made for a general audience and is not directed at children under 13. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete or restrict the use of your personal information, and to object to its processing. Because we don't hold your notes on a server, most of these rights can be exercised directly in the app. For anything else, email us and we'll respond within 30 days.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll update it on this page and change the date at the top.
